Miracle in Malibu 40th Anniversary.

1985-2025 🥇🇺🇸

Following that life changing day when my University of Toledo Rocket Tennis Coach shared a small newspaper clipping advertising tryouts for the 1985 World Games for the Deaf, I went to visit my Aunt Judy in White Bear Lake Minnesota.

Together we visited Starkey Headquarters in Eden Prairie Minnesota. My hearing aid professional Al Bruce who loved and played tennis, was excited when I shared the news about the Deaf Games being held in LA.

Afterwards he and Bill Austin, Founder-President-and CEO of Starkey discussed sponsorship possibilities. Bill and TeamStarkey decided to not only sponsor me, but our entire tennis team. Starkey went the extra mile and set up their first mission at the LA WGD.

“In 1978, Bill Austin created the Starkey Fund, which was a battery-recycling program with proceeds aimed at helping people in need receive hearing assistance. This fund evolved into the Starkey Hearing Foundation, which was officially founded in 1984 by Bill and Tani Austin.
In 1985, Starkey Hearing Foundation conducted its first mission at XV World Games for the Deaf in Los Angeles, fitting more than 800 deaf athletes.”

The stage was set for the “Miracle in Malibu” five set come from behind Gold Medal tennis match, documented in the new movie Never Give Up Movie – Brad Minns .

During a recent visit to Starkey Headquarters I was fitted with their latest “Edge” Hearing Aids. These are powered by modern technology with Ai that helps with better sound quality in tough listening situations. Today Starkey, led by President Brandon Sawalich is moving Starkey into the future at breakneck speed “working to change the world through better hearing.”

Happy 40 year Anniversary TeamStarkey!

A million thanks for the gift of hearing.

Your love and support all these years is a great blessing to me and so many others around the world.

Praying for your  continued success. 🙏
